Lena was killed by the poachers. The transmitter led the scientists to her radio collar, left in the snow on the side of a well-traveled road. When they retraced Lena's tracks back into the forest, they found her four cubs, which they would, follow with their mother for several months. As people, they were relieved to find Lena’s cubs alive. Although two of the cubs died later, other two Lena’s cubs were extremely lucky to be found alive, as many other cubs do not have the same fate.
